Five Days. Nine Resorts. My Honest Take On Four Resorts.

Hyatt Inclusive Collection Inspections — Cancún, Playa Mujeres, Costa Mujeres & Isla Mujeres

There is no substitute for walking a property yourself.

Over four full days, I personally inspected nine resorts within the Hyatt Inclusive Collection across Cancun, Costa Mujeres, Playa Mujeres, and Isla Mujeres. I toured multiple room categories, evaluated beach conditions, observed service culture, assessed food quality, and paid attention to the details clients rarely see online — music levels, pool temperatures, room layouts, and overall energy.

Here is my brief but honest, professional breakdown of four of the resorts I toured. But first, let's discuss:

The Regions

Before diving into the individual resort reviews, it’s important to understand the distinct personalities of the areas I toured: Cancún, Playa Mujeres, Costa Mujeres, and Isla Mujeres. While they’re geographically close, they each offer a very different experience — and choosing the right location is just as important as choosing the right resort.

Cancún (Hotel Zone) is vibrant, energetic, and iconic. This is where you’ll find the classic turquoise Caribbean water and white sand beaches Cancun is famous for. It offers convenience, nightlife, shopping, and a wide range of resort styles — from lively social properties to refined adults-only escapes. If you like action nearby, this is your zone.

Playa Mujeres feels more elevated and relaxed. Located north of the Hotel Zone, it offers wider beaches, calmer waters, and a more secluded atmosphere. Resorts here tend to feel more spacious and polished, ideal for travelers wanting luxury without the chaos.

Costa Mujeres is newer, modern, and thoughtfully developed. This area has become home to some of the most visually striking, design-forward resorts in the region. It offers a quieter stretch of coastline while still delivering high-end experiences and beautiful beachfront settings.

Isla Mujeres is a completely different rhythm. Reached by ferry, this small island feels intimate, romantic, and boutique in comparison to the mainland. The pace is slower, the views are stunning, and the experience feels more exclusive — but it does require a bit more planning with transfers and timing.

Each area serves a different type of traveler — and after touring extensively in all four, the nuances truly matter.

Secrets Mirabel

(Adults Only – Design-Forward)

Secrets Mirabel delivers sophisticated architecture and an elevated atmosphere. This is not a loud, entertainment-heavy adults-only resort. It feels intentional and curated. What stood out to me:

  • Clean design lines

  • Relaxed pool environments

  • A quieter, more romantic energy

This is ideal for couples who value aesthetics and a vibrant daytime atmosphere over service and food quality

Positives: The resort itself is aesthetically beautiful and very well designed. The nighttime entertainment in the basement bar was also a lot of fun and one of the more enjoyable parts of the stay. The rooms were incredible, and the beds were comfortable. The only decent food I had was at Olio's, the outdoor breakfast restaurant - it was wonderful!

Negatives: Unfortunately, the food quality at every other restaurant, and overall service throughout, were extremely disappointing. In my experience, this was the poorest level of food and service I’ve encountered at a Secrets property, which made the overall stay fall short of expectations. Many had no hot water despite asking several times and being reassured that it was fixed. Finally, you can not have mobility issues if staying here; there is no way to the beach other than stairs, and there are plenty throughout.

Summary: ❌ Secrets Mirabel is a definite miss for my agency.

Hyatt Vivid Grand Island

(Adults Only – Chic & Modern)

Hyatt Vivid has a chic, contemporary vibe that feels fresh and current. It’s social without being chaotic. The design leans playful and modern, and it’s clearly targeting a younger, style-forward demographic. Best for:

  • Social couples

  • Friends’ trips

  • Guests who enjoy atmosphere and rooftop-style environments

This is not traditional Cancun — and that’s exactly the appeal. There is a Bohemian vibe running through this resort, and I loved it!

Positives: I truly loved this property, even though it’s not directly on the beach. They offer complimentary shuttles to their beach club — and let me tell you, it is fantastic! The food is exceptional and absolutely will not disappoint. This is a quieter resort and definitely not a party scene; its focus is on health, wellness, relaxation, and a more refined experience, which makes it feel incredibly peaceful and elevated.

Negatives: The only real consideration is that the resort itself is not located on the beach, so if being directly on the water is a must for you, that’s something to keep in mind. That said, they do have a fabulous beach club with easy shuttle access, which more than makes up for it for most guests.

Summary: ✅Vivid Grand Island is a definite HIT for couples who crave something unique, fun, with great quality all-around!!!

Secrets The Vine

(Adults Only – My Hotel Zone Favorite)

I loved The Vine. Out of all the Hotel Zone inspections, this one felt the most aligned with elevated, adult-focused sophistication. It’s sleek, polished, and confident without trying too hard. Why it stands out:

  • Stunning ocean views from higher floors

  • Integrated wine culture throughout the experience

  • Calm, chic energy

  • Consistently strong service presence

For couples who want refined Cancun without party chaos, this is one of my top recommendations.

Positives: Daily complimentary wine tastings are such a lovely touch, and the adults-only atmosphere makes for a relaxing, elevated experience. The food is excellent and the service is consistently warm and attentive — everything you want for a refined, easy getaway.

Negatives: If I had to note anything, the beach is a bit smaller than I personally prefer — but that’s simply due to the area and not something the resort can control. Overall, a wonderful stay.

Summary: ✅Secrets The Vine is a definite HIT for couples who want an elevated and refined experience!!!

Dreams Playa Mujeres

(Family Friendly – Spacious & Versatile)

Dreams Playa Mujeres delivers on scale — large rooms, villa categories, heated pools, and strong programming. Ideal for:

  • Larger families and wedding destination

  • Destination celebrations

  • Clients needing two-bedroom configurations

It offers flexibility without sacrificing quality.

Positives: I absolutely LOVE this resort. There are so many pool options and the beach is beautiful as well. It really caters to families, and if you happen to have a sitter for the kids, adults can easily slip over to Secrets next door for an evening out. The food is wonderful, and the service is consistently quick and friendly. It’s honestly one of the best Dreams resorts I’ve visited — and, in my humble opinion, even superior to Secrets next door!

Negatives: There is a bit more concrete around the pool areas than I typically love. I would personally enjoy seeing more wood elements incorporated to soften the overall feel, though I completely understand why it’s designed this way. Truly, that’s the only minor note — I can’t think of anything genuinely bad to say.

Summary: ✅Dreams Playa Mujeres is a definite HIT for families and couples alike!!!

Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets

(Adults Only – Boutique Luxury Standout)

This was the crown jewel of my inspections. There was beauty around every corner, and you will understand why this photo album is a sliding one!

Incredible.... that's all I can say. 💓

Accessible via a dedicated transfer experience, Impression Isla Mujeres feels intentionally separate and elevated. Highlights:

  • Heated pools

  • Plastic-free initiatives (yet my departure drink had a plastic straw 😉)

  • Sustainability efforts (including per-guest environmental contributions)

  • Intimate scale

  • Refined dining concepts

  • Sargassum-protected positioning

This is for honeymooners, milestone anniversaries, and clients who want boutique serenity over resort scale.

Positives: Gorgeous, peaceful, and nearly perfect. This intimate, smaller property delivers an incredibly serene and romantic atmosphere. It was actually my favorite of the trip, and the food was absolutely impeccable — truly standout in every way. It’s easy to see why Impressions Isla Mujeres is considered the #1 most Instagrammed resort in the world; visually, it is stunning at almost every turn. Even for someone like me who tends to notice design flaws, this resort is exceptionally beautiful and thoughtfully done.

Negatives: It is a smaller resort, which also means there isn’t much on-site to do — definitely come with relaxation and romance in mind rather than activity and entertainment, as there is no formal evening entertainment. One notable drawback is that guests from elsewhere on the island can come onto the property for meals at any time, which can undermine the exclusivity. Additionally, the resort allows outside guests to enter for a fee to take photos, which further diminishes the private, luxury feel.

Another important consideration is access: it requires about a 40-minute ferry ride each way from Cancun. You’ll want to be very mindful of flight times and potential delays when planning arrival and departure days to ensure smooth connections.

Finally, this property is very pricey, but I have learned that value means different things to different people.

Why Personal Site Inspections Matter

Websites show flawless photography and perfectly staged moments. They’re designed to sell the dream — not necessarily to explain the reality.

What they don’t show you is how a resort actually feels once you arrive.

They don’t tell you:

• What the music volume is like at 4PM when you’re trying to relax

• How service truly feels beyond the first welcome drink

• Wind patterns that can make or break a beach day

• Whether pools are refreshing… or surprisingly cold

• How rooms function in real life, not just in photos

• If a resort feels peaceful, crowded, romantic, or family-heavy

• How far everything actually is when you’re walking it yourself• Whether the vibe matches what you’re celebrating

That’s the difference personal site inspections make — and why I prioritize them. I personally invest my own time, money, and resources into visiting and revisiting resorts so I can give you current, honest, firsthand insight. Not what a brochure said three years ago. Not what a marketing team hopes you experience. What it’s actually like right now.

When I recommend a Hyatt Inclusive Collection property (or any resort), it’s based on being there — walking the grounds, tasting the food, meeting management, observing service, and understanding exactly which traveler each property is truly best suited for. And if I haven't been, I ask a trusted colleague who has.

Because the truth is simple: Not every beautiful resort is right for every client.

My role is to match you to the right experience — the one that fits your travel style, expectations, and investment. If you’re trusting me with your vacation time and budget, I believe you deserve advice backed by real presence, real experience, and real knowledge.
